Talks, Shows and Outings in 2026
We have a full programme of talks and events for 2026. Meetings and shows are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 8.00 p.m. in Fawkham & Hartley Church Centre, Ash Road, Hartley DA3 8DB.
Visitors are welcome (small entry fee for meetings; free entry to shows).

14 January - Alpines - Caroline Halfpenny
This talk is about small plants that thrive at high altitude. In harsh conditions such as low temperatures, strong winds, and intense sunlight.
11 February - Raised Bed and No-dig - Alison Marsden
An experienced gardener and speaker, Alison discusses the advantages and disadvantages of this type of gardening. Distribution of dwarf French Bean seeds Parfree's Dragon Tongue for the Autumn Special class.
11 March - Propagation - Tony Roberts & Seedling Swap
A talk by our member on propagating different types of plant. We will also have a seedling swap.
8 April - Spring Evening Show
Judged by members. Visitors are welcome and have free entry. Bring along your polyanthus in flower (plugs issued last autumn), or a photo of the flower if it has already gone over.
13 May - How Trees are Grown Commercially and What Trees we Should Consider with Climate Change - Richard McKenna
Provender Nurseries' MD gives an insight in tree growing and the problems of commercial nurseries.
10 June - Foliage in Flower Arranging - Hartley Flower Club & Plant Sale
A short talk this evening as we are also holding a Plant Sale.
08 July - Dahlias - Ali Keeson
A scientist, teacher, tutor, florist and micro flower farmer in Sevenoaks Kent. Ali will be speaking about her passion - Dahlias.
12 August - How Artists and Garden Designers Lead us up the Garden Path - Jane Scotchmer
Focusing on the role of the path, this talk is a fusion of painterly and horticultural principles of design.
09 September - Autumn Evening Show
As usual, tonight’s Autumn show will be judged by experienced external judges. Enjoy the exhibits, including the wonderful floral arrangements. Bring along your longest bean (seeds issued in February).
14 October - Coach trip to Wisley
Returning to wonderful Wisley gardens to view the autumn colour. There are cafes, shop and plant nursery. (NB The site no longer accepts cash). (Please note payment in full required at time of booking).
11 November - AGM and Cheese & Wine Social Evening
Our short Annual General Meeting (a legal requirement) offers the chance for you to hear how your society is run, and to ask questions and have your say. After the awarding of our annual trophies, we will have a buffet with wine or juice, and time to chat with other members. Do come along to this sociable evening.
December - No Meeting
There is no indoor meeting in December. We look forward to seeing you in January.
Suggestions for future lectures will be welcomed by our lecture secretary Sue Cox at any of our meetings.
