Hartley Library Reading Garden

Update January 2026

Grand Opening 28th October 2025

We were very pleased when Sevenoaks Libraries wished to host a grand opening of the Reading Garden. Sevenoaks Libraries provided refreshments, book sale and unveiling of a plague. A number of members attended this happy event.

The Story to date

In July 2024 the Society agreed to create and support a Reading Garden in Hartley Library. The garden is open for adults to enjoy free of charge, when the library is open. Library membership is not required. The garden is not suitable for wheelchair users.

In one year, the space has been transformed. Society members have cleaned paving, fixed benches, planted and cared for 125+ plants.  The library have supported our work by installing a water butt and renewing the fence. All plants have been donated by Society members and library users. Any contributions for the garden are welcome.

Garden volunteers are offering plants for a minimum donation.  Funds raised will support the maintenance and development of the Garden.

The Society welcomes anyone who would like to help in the garden, especially with watering during the warmer months. If you're interested, please send us an email.

Why not call in to the library to enjoy the Reading Garden?
